"Tizita" is an Amharic word and a common name, which loosely translated means "to remember, with nostalgia". Tizita is also an entire genre of music, which has been called "Ethiopia's ode to the blues". So this song is like a nod to that whole era of Ethiopian music, and the Tizita i'm rapping out isn't even a person... "she's" a metaphor for collective memory, and how it gets lost from generation to generation, especially as families are uprooted from their country of origin and children have to grow up in another.
This track can be found on The Kafa Beanz album "Andromeda: The Chronicles of Blackopia, Vol. 1" Originally released in the summer of 2008, The Kafa Beanz was a collective of Ethiopian-American musicians Burntface, B. Sheba, Wayna, AP and myself... and the album is now available almost exclusively on www.addistunes.com
We made a classic album and played a total of 2 shows ever...
There's also a really dope video produced for this song, directed by Salvatore Fullmore. Be sure to check him out too! www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJsy0C5K1Ic
